Get Noticed at ABC Member Dinner Meetings

During times like this, we have found that promoting your company has never been more important. That is why ABC offers two ways to market your company at our member dinner meeting events.

The first way is by becoming a dinner meeting sponsor. There are three more 2010 dinner meetings available: May, September, and October. This sponsorship is $500 and the benefits include:

• Two complimentary dinner tickets to the event sponsored
• A line mention in all articles regarding the event in the ABC Newsline as event sponsor
• Company logo on all name badges at event
• Three minutes to speak from the podium about your company
• Display table for marketing materials
• Signage at the sponsored dinner meeting as main event sponsor

The second great way to get your company more recognition at the dinner meetings is by signing up to bring a gift basket with goodies and branded promotional materials from your company. A different gift basket will be raffled off at each dinner meeting. If you are interested or have any questions on either the dinner meeting sponsor or the gift basket giveaway, please contact Amy Gegoux at (800) 640-7789.

Bill Cowin with Ketchikan Drywall Services, Inc. was the dinner meeting sponsor at the September 2009 dinner meeting where he was able to tell the audience all about his company.

Business After Hours

ABC’s Young Professionals Group is shaking up the May member dinner meeting: Business After Hours! Come join us for this fun event on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. The event begins with a networking reception, so make sure to bring plenty of business cards. You will also have the chance to go on a full tour of the brewery, enjoy a deli style buffet and listen to an educational session presented by Dustin Walling of Dustin Walling Associates.

In times like these it’s hard to achieve a goal when we are so consumed with just surviving. That's not very fun or productive. Dustin’s educational session will be interactive. You will pick something you have been struggling with accomplishing, pinpoint the obstacles to success, and learn specific techniques to problem solve so you can achieve your full potential. Join us in this hands-on session, which will enable each of us to find creative solutions to success.

This event is instead of ABC’s regular dinner meeting, and members of all age groups are encouraged to attend. To register or sign up as the May dinner meeting sponsor, please contact Amy Gegoux at 800.640.7789.

Promote Your Company in the ABC Member Directory

When times are tough it is even more important to promote your company in every way possible. While you might be tempted to cut back on your advertising/marketing budget, you need to make sure you are well positioned when the economy rebounds. For that reason, ABC will be producing its 2010-2011 Member Directory again this year, even in these lean times. Your company will have a full listing in the appropriate section in the front (generals, subs, suppliers/industry professionals), in the back “yellow pages” by specialty. You also have an opportunity to advertise.

Our goal is to produce a top quality publication that will be in every member’s truck and on every estimator/project manager’s desk, helping members to do business with members. We have either lowered or kept the ad rates the same to help you promote your company in a cost-effective manner. We rely on ad revenue to cover production costs, so be sure to update your listing and strongly consider placing an ad. If you have any questions about the new directory or advertising in it, please contact Wendy Novak or Kim Trautman at (800) 640-7789.

 Green Bites

On March 4th, the ABC Green Council offered a site tour and presentation of Tacoma’s first LEED Platinum (pending) rated mixed use complex, hosted by BLRB Architects.  The reconstruction and renovation was completed in July 2009. Some office and retail spaces are still being worked on, but the structure itself is finished and being utilized. Some ABC members who worked on the project were Nuprecon, LP, Air Systems Engineering, Inc. and McMullen Electric, Inc.

Twenty people were able to attend the extensive presentation. BLRB Architects, a partner in the project, gave an in-depth look at how they obtained the LEED points needed to turn an old cement parking garage into a new, mixed-use complex striving for a LEED Platinum rating. Their presentation included before and after pictures of various aspects of the reconstruction phases. They were able to point out some areas that proved to be challenging, and other areas that required a lot of sustainable innovation to obtain the LEED Platinum points.

The sustainable project highlights include: a highly visible green roof covering approximately 85% of the 28,000 sq. ft. building, a rainwater collection cistern which will reduce rainwater runoff from the site and will be utilized as gray water for water reuse in the facility (flush toilets) and irrigation for the green roof, as well as a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system. The system to collect rainwater is located 15 feet below street level, and is a well-preserved remnant of a Turkish bath house that operated at 13th and Pacific Avenues downtown in the late 19th century. These green elements will significantly reduce the amount of energy and water the facility uses.

Here are some of the statistics from this project: contractors reused 78% of the existing structure, diverted 98% of construction and demolition waste from the landfill, 35.6% of materials used were recycled, 11.9% of materials used were locally manufactured and extracted, 72.6% of wood used is FSC certified, 92.8% of occupied space has access to daylight and 92.9% of occupied space has access to exterior views.

After the presentation, BLRB treated the group to a personal tour of their sustainable office space and an up-close look at the green roof.  It was easy to see why this structure serves as a showcase for the City of Tacoma’s commitment to sustainable building practices and energy conservation!

The next outing of the ABC Green Council will be on Thursday, May 6th from 11:30 – 1:00 pm (the time frame will be strictly adhered to so everyone will be able to participate in all stages of this visit). Come join us as we learn about recycling at Recovery 1, a premier recycling facility in Tacoma. For more information on the ABC Green Council or upcoming Green Council events, contact Kim Trautman at (800) 640-7789.
