ABC Leadership Develops Strategic Plan for the Coming Year

“Thriving Not Just Surviving” was the theme for the ABC of Western Washington annual Leadership Planning Conference held in June. Incoming Chair Erin VerHoeven (Corstone Contractors LLC) chose her theme from the popular TV reality series, Survivor: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast.

Since it is likely the economy is going to continue to be a challenge longer than originally thought, ABC and its members are facing the prospect of not seeing an improvement until sometime in 2012, then recovery lag time on top of that. Chapter leaders and staff gathered for two days of planning taking into account the long recovery period ahead of us. Time was spent reviewing what had and had not been accomplished in the last year, taking stock of the current situation for members and the chapter, and identifying our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges.

After laying the groundwork, the conference attendees divided into three groups and developed goals and action plans for membership and member services, government and labor affairs, and education and safety.

The task for each group was to develop a plan that would position ABC of Western Washington to not just survive the next few years but to become stronger and thrive as the economy rebounds. The primary focus was determining what members need in this current environment and meeting those needs through the association.

Each council (Membership, Government & Labor Affairs, Development & Education and Governance) is spending the next few weeks fleshing out their annual plans and will report them to the Board of Directors at the August 11th meeting.

A summary of the plan for the next year will be provided to the members in the September Newsline. If you have anything to suggest for the coming year, contact Kathleen Garrity
at (800) 640-7789. All ideas are welcome!
