ABC National also has a program for all members that can help your business save money. ABC members can get exclusive discounts with ABC’s National Business Partners. ABC’s Meet the Generals event was a great success. After the event, members called or emailed raving about the experience. “As a general contractor, finding the right team for each of our projects is paramount to our success. ABC's Meet the Generals event was a great introduction to some of ABC's qualified subcontractor members and will enhance our ability to bring together the right players for future projects," said Amanda Grindle with Saybr Contractors, Inc.
Without the 12 ABC member general contractors who attended, this night would not have been possible: Centennial Contractors, Corstone Contractors LLC, Davis Schueller Inc., Express Construction Co., Inc., Graham Contracting, Ltd., Industrial Resources, Inc., Marpac Construction, LLC, Redhawk Group, LLC, Saybr Contractors, Inc., Rafn Company, Synergy Constructions, Inc., and W.G. Clark Construction Co. Thanks to all of the generals who made this evening a success!
ABC would also like to thank the sponsors for attending and facilitating each table. Premier sponsors Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker LLP and RC Painting, Inc. both gave a great introduction to their companies at the beginning of the event. Thank you to all the table sponsors: Clothier & Head, PS, Employer Resources Northwest, Federal Construction Consultants, NW Wind & Solar, Pacific Fire & Security, Technology Services Company, Inc. and The Bluebook of Building and Construction. And last but not least, a big thanks to Madden Industrial Craftsmen for sponsoring the food.
ABC surveyed the attendees and received helpful feedback to make this event even better next year. Thanks again to everyone who made this event possible. ABC is very excited to host this same event next year. Stay tuned for the date!

The ABC Green Council will be celebrating Earth Day 2010 by engaging in a City of Kent park enhancement project on Thursday, April 22nd from 10 am – 2 pm. The project is enhancing the corner of The Uplands Playfields (valley section) and clearing parts of the interurban trail of rock debris and black berry bush tendrils. A corner of the ballpark will be re-landscaped with plants, fencing and woodchips to clean up the area and make it more aesthetically pleasing.
The council invites anyone who would like to volunteer some time to do so. No experience is required, just ambition to help the council bring awareness and appreciation for the community and the environment. The council is looking for some donations to be used in the project: plants, topsoil, peeler pole fencing and/or monetary donations to go directly toward landscaping supplies.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating to this event, please contact Kim Trautman at (800) 640-7789, (425) 646-8000, or you can download the registration flyer here (.pdf).

- Reuse canvas or cloth bags for shopping to avoid using plastic bags.
- Use compact florescent light (CFL) bulbs rather than standard incandescent bulbs to save money on electric bills and reduce the use of fossil fuels.
- Unplug electronics, cell phone chargers and battery chargers when not in use to save energy and money. Even when these items are turned off, they still draw electricity.
- Recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles and paper. Contact your local municipality to learn how to recycle items such as plastic bags, batteries, cell phones, motor oil, light bulbs, etc.
- Shop locally for food items to support sustainable agriculture and reduce fuel consumption required for transporting food from distant locations.
- Use reusable water bottles or install a water filter in your faucet to avoid buying bottled water.
- Save trees and postage by paying bills online and cancelling paper statements and junk mail.
- Conserve fuel by turning down the heat at night and while you are away from your home — or install a programmable thermostat.
- Use non toxic cleaning products to avoid exposure to unsafe chemicals found in commercial cleaning products.
- Conserve water by turning it off while brushing your teeth, doing only full loads of laundry and dishes and installing efficient shower heads and faucets. Lower the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees and wash your clothes in cold water. 90% of the energy used by washing machines goes to heating water.

Now is the time to invest in your company’s people! A perfect way to do that is by attending or sending employees to the ABC Education Conference, May 5-7 in New Orleans. There are multiple tracks: project managers, business managers, safety professionals, training professionals, electrical contractors and mechanical contractors. In addition, there is a full-day Green Advantage Commercial Training workshop that prepares for the Green Advantage Certification exam. The exam is given at the end of the conference. There is also a CHST Prep-Math & Science for those preparing for those seeking Construction Health & Safety Technician certification. For more information, visit www.abc.org/EdCon. ABC of Western Washington members who have participated have given this conference high marks!
