ABC Honors Projects at Excellence in Construction Awards Showcase
ABC Offers "Business After Hours"
April 28th was the night ABC of Western Washington celebrated the “best of the best” in the merit shop construction industry, awarding 11 Excellence in Construction Awards to deserving project teams. The revamped Awards Showcase took place at the Spirit of Washington Event Center and was a huge hit with those in attendance. Everyone mingled, snacked on appetizers and learned about the different projects from the winning teams themselves in a tradeshow-like format. One of the winning teams, Donovan Brothers, Inc., held a wine tasting at their booth. Synergy Construction, Inc. showed off their new tradeshow booth setup, and Dykstra Construction Services, LLC brought a model of the fantastic residence they built for the Cohenour family.
People really enjoyed having the opportunity to speak face-to-face with each other, while looking at the project photos and binders. The honorable mention projects were also highlighted in the center of the room, and garnered nearly as much attention as the winners. After the opening reception and showcase, guests were seated and enjoyed dinner before each of the winning teams were brought up on stage to be recognized and receive their trophy.
The winning projects were selected by a panel of distinguished judges. They spent hours poring over each entry, then deliberated which projects rose above the rest. The judges were: Jay Janette, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, Mithun; Benjamin Minnick, Construction Editor, Daily Journal of Commerce; Scott Rhodes, NCARB, Rhodes Architecture; John Schaufelberger, Ph.D., P.E., Chairman of the Department of Construction Management, University of Washington; Max Steele, AIA, Senior Design Architect, CollinsWoerman; and Jon Taylor, AIA, Senior Designer, Collins Woerman.
Congratulations to all of the winning project teams!

ABC of Western Washington is trying something different for the next member dinner meeting. Instead of the traditional dinner meeting at a hotel, ABC's Young Professionals Group is hosting an evening of networking and education at the Redhook Brewery on May 26th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.
We will begin the event with open networking and then a complete tour of the brewery, including tastings. After we have dinner, Dustin Walling of Dustin Walling and Associates will lead us in an interactive session where you will pick something you have been struggling with accomplishing, pinpoint the obstacles to success, and learn specific techniques to problem solve so you can achieve your full potential. This hands-on session will enable each of us to find creative solutions to success.
In times like these it is hard to achieve a goal when we are so consumed with just surviving. That's not very fun or productive. Join us for this innovating opportunity to work together with your fellow attendees to overcome your obstacles to success.
To register or to find out more, please contact Amy Gegoux at 800.640.7789.
