ABC’s Volunteer of the Year for 2008 is Dustin Long with Big Sky Northwest Construction, Inc. Dustin joined ABC in November of 2007 and immediately began to participate at many different levels.

Dustin’s family owns a large construction company in Texas. Last year, Dustin moved to Seattle and started Big Sky Northwest Construction, Inc. After joining, Dustin began to take advantage of the dinner meetings, networking events and other ABC functions to learn more about the local industry. Before long, everyone knew Dustin. He is a very passionate, motivated individual with high standards and he brought all that with him to ABC.

Dustin became a participant in the Rising Star program, began participating on the Membership Council, as well as the Professional Development Council. Dustin attended the chapter Leadership Conference, supported ABC at the Blue Book tradeshow, and volunteered to assist the chapter in developing a peer council to address green building and sustainability. We now have the vibrant ABC Green Council, of which Dustin was vice-chair. After that, he worked along with Ryan Haggard of Haggard Electrical Contractors to start the ABC Young Professionals Group. The YPG is a peer group for ABC’s younger members to network, share concerns within the industry, and have a good time in a fun, casual atmosphere. This past year Dustin brought a lot of energy, excitement and passion along with new intiatives.

Unfortunately for all of us here in the Pacifi c Northwest, Dustin has decided to move back to Texas and assist his family with their company. This is an exciting move for Dustin and his family, and we wish him all the best! We will sincerely miss having him around, as he fit into the ABC family very well. Thank you, Dustin, for everything you brought to ABC; we are all better for it and you are leaving us better than you found us. Look out ABC of North Texas – Dustin is on his way, and he’s bringing his passion and enthusiasm for ABC with him!
