Washington Construction Week is a weeklong intensive Leadership program designed to expose high school students from across the state to the exciting career possibilities in the construction industry and help meet the future demand for a highly qualified, motivated workforce.
Modeled after the Washington Business Week Program, Construction Week uses the same experiential learning format. The curriculum was co-created by Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington and uses the National Homebuilders Association’s “Build a Home of Your Own” simulation.
For a full week, students work in “Companies” of 10 students with a volunteer mentor from the construction industry. The “Companies” compete for the most competitive bid to build a new commercial project, develop business and marketing plans, and present the project at a trade show of investors. Students also attend seminars led by industry professionals, explore career opportunities, and even get “dirty” on a few fun hands on construction projects. Two college credits are available. The registration fee is just $325 per student. There is still space for this summer’s program at Central Washington University, July 19-25, but hurry! Volunteers are also needed.
