WORKERS’ COMP RISK CLASSIFICATION PROPOSED RULE CHANGE (07/01/2009)

The Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) is proposing a new subaccount for the risk classification 0516 building repair and carpentry, not otherwise classified (N.O.C.). L&I is currently conducting stakeholder meetings prior to filing their CR 102 which sets the time for public hearings. The current proposed adoption date is January 1, 2010.

The proposed category is 0516-02. When this rule is finalized you may be able to have this classification assigned to your account if you want to breakdown each category of work that you do in the process of your repairs. If you currently report hours under 0516 you can keep this classification and not worry about breaking out hours for each type of work done during the repair of a building. The base rate for both 0516 and 0516-02 will remain the same: where you may see a change in rate will be with the other risk classes for the work that you do.

For further information, contact Vice President of Safety and Education Ann Jarvis at (800) 640-7789.
