CALL TO ACTION! VOLUNTEER & PEER GROUP OPPORTUNITIES (03/01/2009)
Have you ever wanted to participate on a committee or council within ABC of Western Washington (ABC/WW) but weren’t sure where you fit in? If so, you are not alone. Over the past few years, ABC has grown and in doing so has been able to offer a variety of councils and committees for members to be involved in. Most councils and committees meet once a month at the ABC office to conduct their business.

ABC/WW has four main councils that make up the structure of the chapter; Governance, Membership, Government & Labor Affairs and Professional Development. Each of the main councils oversee committees, taskforces and/or peer councils that are responsible for taking a closer look at specific areas offered by ABC or that are a benefit to ABC members.

The ABC Governance Council oversees governance, leadership, planning, public relations and national representation of the chapter. Responsibilities of this council include leadership and chapter development, Finance and Retro committees and strategic planning. Involvement on either the council or committees is by invitation only.

The ABC Membership Council oversees the sustained growth of the chapter by providing services and benefits of value. This council is the largest of all the councils because it not only oversees committees, but offers a host of peer to peer councils available to members. The responsibility of this council includes recruitment, retention, integration and involvement, programs and events, and networking. The council oversees the auction, golf, industry partners and diversity committees and also watches over the green, Framers’ and electrical contactor councils, the north end taskforce and the young professionals group.

The Government and Labor Affairs Council oversees the promotion and defense of free enterprise and open competition in construction and a favorable construction environment of laws and regulations. Responsibilities of this council include government and regulatory affairs, legal affairs, free enterprise alliance and employer advocacy. The council oversees the Legislative Action Team, State and National Political Action Committees (PAC) and grassroots efforts. Contact Aran Buchan, director of government affairs, for specifics.

The Professional Development Council oversees the enhancement of skills and knowledge of our members and their employees. Responsibilities of this council include management and supervisory education, safety training and services and workforce development. The council oversees the Safety and UW Student Chapter Committees, and the IT and ABC University taskforces.

The ABC/WW chapter is looking for a few good volunteers. If you are interested in any of the above councils and/or committees, please contact membership services coordinator Kim Trautman for more specific information at (800) 640-7789.
