The Construction Industry Training Council of Washington (CITC) concluded its 24th year of training with a grand graduation at the MeydenbauerCenter on June 19th. Over 300 people attended the event for 91 graduates and awardees. ABC of Western Washington was a Diamond Sponsor for the memorable evening. The event was preceded by an electrical trade show with 20 vendors displaying and explaining their state of the art construction tools and new products.
Keynote speaker Dave Cunningham, Dean of Workforce Training & Economic Development at Lake WashingtonTechnicalCollege and special speaker Harvey Platt, CEO of PLATT Electric, kicked off the evening with congratulations as well as admonitions for graduates to continue to strive forward in their careers with further education and to be responsible future industry leaders.
Student of the Year awards were presented to:
Roc Cristel, Carpentry - SD Deacon Corp of Washington (ABC member)
Timothy Clements, Electrical - Coastal Construction Group, Inc. Giovanny Espinosa, HVAC
Matias Lomeli, Painting - WA Commercial Painters, Inc. (ABC member)
Michael Snyder, Plumbing (pictured in above photo) - Merit Mechanical (ABC member) and
Mike Dupea, Sheet Metal - Air Systems Engineering, Inc. (ABC member).
Apprentice of the Year was Adam Albizu with Stateside Power.
The 2008-2009 Instructor of the Year Award was presented to Dave Price of ABC member firm Air Systems Engineering, who has been teaching sheet metal classes for CITC since 1988. A special 20-year award was presented to Donald Patten, who has been the first year electrical instructor in Tacoma since 1989.
CITC Chairperson Diane Glenn, CEO of Construction Consultants, awarded diplomas to all students, while PLATT issued $25 gift cards to each graduate.
2010 will be the 25th CITC graduation and will be celebrated on June 25th – be sure to calendar the date!
