CITATIONS NOW FOR NOT GUYING REBAR (10/01/2009)

Be aware, L&I will be issuing citations immediately on the guying requirement for reinforcing steel. A fatality last year was caused in part because the rebar was not guyed.

Under WAC 296-155 Part O, concrete construction section 680 subsection 7(c) reinforcing steel guying states: Reinforcing steel for walls, piers, columns, and similar vertical structures shall be guyed and supported to prevent overturning and to prevent collapse.

Section 675 definitions applicable to this part under subsection 2 (j) states: “Guy” means a line that steadies a high piece or structure by pulling against an off-center load. Visit http://lni.wa.gov/wisha/rules/construction/HTML/296-155o.htm for more information.
