Washington Secetary of State Sam Reed
News Release
The public soon can nominate its favorite community-based corporations for Washington’s highest civics award.
September 1 marks the first day that citizens can nominate businesses for a Corporations for Communities Fall Award. October 15 is the deadline to submit a nomination. The Corporations for Communities program was launched in 2009 by Secretary of State Sam Reed as a way to recognize exceptional Washington businesses that demonstrate a commitment to giving in order to improve local or regional social and environmental conditions. Twice a year, Reed selects one large and one small corporation from among the public nominations to receive a National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion, which is the highest civics honor awarded by the state.
"This is an opportunity to encourage and recognize standout corporations that choose to make their community a priority,” Reed said. “With our state still facing tough economic times, it’s important to point out and honor businesses that are giving an extra effort to make a difference in Washington.”
Last May, Redmond housing firm Aboda and Pullman-based Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories were selected from a statewide pool of nominees as 2010 Spring Award winners.
Winners for the 2010 Fall Awards cycle will be announced in November.
Anyone is able to nominate businesses for this honor. Any sized for-profit corporation, Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), or Limited Partnership is eligible for this award. The nominee must be registered with the Office of Secretary of State and be in compliance with state and federal laws.
Nomination forms are available on the Secretary of State’s Web site at http://www.sos.wa.gov/corps/corpsforcommunities/default.aspx.
