OSHA HALTS NATIONAL EMPHASIS PROGRAM ON REPORTING REQUIREMENTS  (08/11/2010)
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) July 27 internally announced plans to suspend its national emphasis program (NEP) targeting employer under-recording of injuries and illnesses after failing to find a significant number or degree of violations through the program.

The program found limited numbers of significant hazards or cases of “bad actors,” based on initial findings which were reported several months ago. In response, OSHA suspended the recordkeeping NEP and is re-evaluating target criteria on which to base inspections. Until new criteria can be determined, no further inspections will take place.

A pilot program for construction, announced concurrently with the launch of the NEP in 2009, was never initiated.
