Building Information Modeling (BIM) is being touted as the future of the design/build process, however with a steep learning curve and a heavy investment of time and money, the initial steps toward adoption can be very daunting. While giant leaps forward are being made within the BIM arena, because of the many challenges posed by adoption in addition to the daily juggling of client deadlines, firms with limited resources have been tentative to dive head first into BIM.
3 Perspectives to Using BIM:
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has 45 districts around the world and all are utilizing BIM in some capacity. Some are more advanced in BIM use than others, although ALL districts are involved in BIM work. David Rackmales will share how USACE utilizes BIM from the owner’s perspective and the expectations they have today and moving forward.
- You’ll hear from James Vandezande from HOK how architects are using BIM for: execution planning, enhanced visual studies, performance-based design and complying with new client BIM requirements.
- Scott Wood of Tishman Construction will share the benefits of BIM for the construction team including: structural steel connection detailing, scope allocation, clash detection for building components, shop drawing/direct fabrication, logistics plans, “4D” scheduling and sequencing, “5D” cost estimating, punchlist tracking and 3D as-builts.
This is a great opportunity to hear from three experts who use BIM in their jobs everyday and learn where BIM is today and where it is going. In addition, a 10-to-15 minute period has been reserved at the end of the presentation for an interactive question-and-answer session so you can discuss specific issues or gain additional knowledge about topics discussed.
