ABC National, comprised of 67 Chapters representing nearly 21,000 members across the country, is the voice of Merit Shop. They work to protect free enterprise by fighting anti-competitive and anti-free market federal regulations. ABC National leads the fight each year against project labor agreements which effectively restrict merit shop contractors from bidding and working on construction projects, thereby dramatically driving up the cost on all public construction. Their project “The Truth About Project Labor Agreements” or thetruthaboutplas.com, takes the lead on this issue to expose wasteful and discriminatory PLA mandates, which were heavily supported by President Biden. ABC urges President Trump to rescind President Biden’s Executive Order 14063, which requires PLAs on federal projects of $35 million or more, and to issue a new executive order ensuring that federal and federally assisted contracts are awarded through a fair and competitive bidding process that allows all qualified contractors to compete on a level playing field based on merit, experience, quality and safety to deliver the highest-quality projects at the best cost. ABC further urges Congress to pass the Fair and Open Competition Act (H.R. 2126/S.1064) to prohibit mandatory PLAs on federal and federally funded projects. ABC estimates that elimination of federal PLA requirements and incentives would yield $10 billion in annual taxpayer savings. Learn more about ABC National's government affairs work.
